My Father has a deep passion. Motorbikes are his passion. He enjoys trying to fit different parts to each bike. In fact, I bet he spends the majority of his time there messing around with custom motorcycle parts trying to get them to fit on a new bike.
One of my most clear memories is of me and my father fixing bikes in his garage. I would go out and join him wanting to spend time with him. I couldn’t have been more than three, maybe four years old. He would have his custom motorcycle parts and I would try and fit the old ones to my bike. Obviously I wasn’t very successful.
You can probably see why I found myself interested in motorbikes, it was ingrained into me at a early age. Some people arrive late to their passion and a classic example is my friend. He saw a film of somebody buying a bike and using it to travel abroad. He fell in love with the idea and it gave him inspiration.
My friend thought that he would get a bargain by buying it on Ebay. It wasn’t very much money but there was a reason (many reasons) for it. It didn’t work! We think back now about how funny it was and the look on his face when it arrived. He didn’t let it put him off; he just decided he would do the bike up.
During the first few months’ of the summer my friend would spend all his time fix that bike. He bought lots of custom motorcycle parts to try to get the thing working again. I have to admit that I admire him for getting stuck in. From not knowing anything at the beginning, by the time he finished he knew quite a bit. The most important thing about the experience was that he had fun.
My friend finished his project on the advice from a mechanic. He went for advice about which custom motorcycle parts would enable it to work. The mechanic told him that it was no use as the bike wouldn’t function anymore.
